Craig & Ashley’s Wedding at Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Murrayfield
It was a real pleasure for Kris Soul Photography to photograph the wedding of Craig and Ashley at Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Murrayfield. It was a fantastic family celebration, filled with happy moments, laughter, emotional speeches and plenty of dancing.
From the very beginning, the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, making it a wonderful day to photograph. Our aim was to capture the wedding naturally and unobtrusively, allowing Craig and Ashley and their family and friends to enjoy the day without spending too much time posing for photographs.
A Beautiful Handfasting Ceremony
The day included a beautiful handfasting ceremony, adding a personal and meaningful touch to Craig and Ashley’s wedding.
Handfasting is a wonderful Scottish wedding tradition, and it was lovely to capture the emotions and reactions of the couple, their family and friends throughout the ceremony. We concentrated on natural moments, genuine expressions and the atmosphere of the occasion rather than constantly directing the couple.
After the ceremony, Craig and Ashley headed off in their wedding car for a special photography session.
Wedding Photography at South Queensferry
One of the highlights of the day was travelling to South Queensferry for photographs with the famous bridges in the background.
The area provides a fantastic setting for wedding photography, with the Forth bridges creating an unmistakable Scottish backdrop. We took a mixture of relaxed couple portraits and natural photographs, giving Craig and Ashley some time together away from the main celebrations.
The photographs were kept relaxed and informal, allowing the couple to enjoy the experience rather than feeling like they were taking part in a long formal photo shoot.

We also made use of the green areas around Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Murrayfield for some additional wedding photographs.
The surroundings gave us plenty of opportunities for natural photographs of Craig and Ashley, as well as family and friends. Having photographed weddings around Edinburgh for many years, we always look for simple opportunities throughout the day to create a good mixture of formal and candid photographs.
For us, wedding photography is about telling the story of the whole day — not just creating posed portraits.
Speeches, Cake Cutting and First Dance
Back at the hotel, the celebrations continued with some fantastic speeches. There were plenty of laughs, emotional moments and reactions from the family and friends.
Later in the evening came the traditional cutting of the wedding cake, followed by Craig and Ashley’s first dance.
The dance floor soon filled up, with family and friends joining the couple to celebrate late into the evening. These moments are often some of our favourite photographs because they happen naturally and show the real atmosphere of the wedding.
